A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time Instrumentation Technician to join the Oxford Thermofluids Institute based at the Southwell Laboratory (Osney, Oxford). You will be working with some of the most sophisticated turbine and high-speed flow/hypersonic facilities in the UK. The research group includes internationally recognised experts in aerodynamic and heat transfer experiments, instrumentation and computational fluid dynamics. This position is permanent.


Based in the recently renovated Instrumentation Lab at the Institute, you will manufacture the complex instrumentation & experimental equipment used in our world class research lab and your work will be a key part of the group’s activities. You will use state-of-the-art instrumentation (including liquid crystals, pressure sensitive paints, thin film heat transfer gauges and miniature velocity probes) as well as undertaking general machine shop & design engineering tasks. You will regularly work with research engineers on projects from early conceptual ideas through to their eventual implementation on an experimental facility. 


You will possess a formal qualification, e.g. HNC, BTEC, City and Guilds award or equivalent in an appropriate subject such as mechanical engineering along with experience in a workshop environment with standard equipment. CNC experience or the ability to learn this is important. You will be able to work as part of a team with good attention to detail & time management skills.
