Description
An exciting full-time opportunity is available for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Multi-phase Heat Transfer, to join the Oxford Thermofluids Institute (Osney Mead). This is a fantastic opportunity to develop next generation thermal management technologies and contribute towards its inclusion in current and future Rolls-Royce aerospace products. The post is funded by external industrial partner and is fixed-term until October 2024, with scope to extend subject to confirmed funding.
This project will investigate immersion cooling of power electronic systems. The objective is to demonstrate and improve the efficacy of heat transfer in pool boiling of electronic components with the aim to demonstrate the applicability in all electric aircraft applications. The project will consist of a significant design, build and test programme. There may be up to two appointments made to support this project.
You will be responsible for
• Developing experimental facilities for multiphase heat transfer testing
• Modelling surface fluid interaction through interfacial science, contact angle dynamics and wettability.
• Design, manufacture, and test micro-structured surfaces
• Develop theory and correlations for surfaces with real components/fluids
• Prepare regular progress presentations for externals stakeholders
You should possess a relevant PhD/DPhil (or be near completion) and demonstration, e.g. through publications, of each of the following is essential
- Proven experience in interfacial science and multiphase fluid dynamics
- Experience in experimental design, build, instrumentation, data collection and analysis
- Good time management, organization and the ability to work effectively across inter-disciplinary boundaries as part of a team and independently.
