Oxford Engineering undergraduate wins the Institution of Engineering and Technology Prize
Zaheen A-Rahman, who placed first in his first and second year Engineering exams, has been recognised for his outstanding academic achievement by the IET

The IET Prize is awarded annually to one outstanding student in each university department offering an IET-accredited course. Recipients are nominated by their departments in recognition of exceptional academic performance and distinction in their studies. The award consists of a certificate and two years of free student membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Zaheen, who placed first in the Department in both first and second year exams, also serves as Chair of the Joint Consultative Committee, representing undergraduate students within Engineering Science.
Reflecting on the award, Zaheen said: "It is truly a great honour to receive the IET Prize! At the same time, I found receiving it to be quite a humbling experience: it would certainly not have been possible without my wonderful teachers and the stellar staff at the Department of Engineering Science, as well as all the superb teaching and support from my terrific tutors at St John's College. For this, I am immensely grateful to them all."
Zaheen hopes to work on highly interdisciplinary engineering projects in the future, bridging the gap between vastly different domains. ‘‘In particular, I am currently most interested in the combination of control theory, thermodynamics, cancer biology, and artificial intelligence. It is worth noting that this is in large part inspired by the heavily multidisciplinary nature of the MEng Engineering Science course here at the University of Oxford, which I absolutely adore,’’ he added.
