Election to NAM is considered one of the highest honours in health and medicine, recognising individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. Professor Stevens was selected for her exceptional contributions to biomaterials-based approaches that address critical healthcare challenges in tissue regeneration and biosensing. Her work has led to innovations in regenerative medicine, advanced therapeutics, and disease diagnostics.

Members are nominated and elected by their peers through a rigorous process that highlights major contributions to medical science, healthcare, and public health.

Commenting on the news, Professor Stevens said:

“I'm very surprised (and delighted) to have been elected as one of the 10 international members of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine. Kudos as ever goes to my brilliant team.”

Professor Stevens leads an interdisciplinary research programme that brings together materials scientists, engineers, chemists, biologists, physicists and surgeons. Her group develops biomaterials that interact with living systems in precise and programmable ways, with applications ranging from soft robotics to medical implants and vaccine platforms. Collaborations with molecular dynamics experts and data scientists underpin much of this work, particularly in the field of digital health.

With this election, Professor Stevens joins a global community of over 2,500 NAM members committed to advancing health through interdisciplinary research, policy, and service. Please join us in congratulating Professor Stevens.
