OXIMS is a multidisciplinary microscopy and materials characterisation small research facility (SRF) within the Department of Engineering Science, led by Professor Jin-Chong Tan and Dr Alfredo Zafra. It provides advanced microscopy, spectroscopy and in situ mechanical characterisation across multiple length scales — combining FEG-SEM and ESEM imaging, AFM, SNOM and confocal Raman imaging, X-ray diffraction, nanoindentation, Deben micromechanical stages and dedicated sample preparation facilities to investigate relationships between microstructure, composition and mechanical behaviour of a vast range of materials.
