Biography
Alexander Fieldsend is a DPhil student in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and a member of Pembroke College. He holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Liverpool and is a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
Prior to his doctoral studies, Alexander began his career at the UK Atomic Energy Authority as a Mechanical Design Engineer, working on projects such as the European Spallation Source (ESS). He also served as an operator on the Joint European Torus (JET) during its world-record-breaking final fusion campaign, followed by a strategic role in policy and governance within the UKAEA Executive Office.
Now based in Oxford’s Solid Mechanics group, Alexander’s research focuses on accelerating the high-temperature qualification of fusion materials through Materials Testing 2.0.
