Biography

Alex graduated from the University of Oxford in 2020 with an MEng in Engineering Science. Supervised by Brian Sheil, his final year project focused on investigating group interaction effects in laterally loaded pile groups and resulted in his first publication “Group shape effects on the lateral capacity of pile groups in undrained soil.”

Since graduating, Alex has spent a year working for Ward and Burke Construction Ltd as a design and site engineer, working on projects including Turku Outfall Pipe in Southwest Finland and Protos Energy from Waste Power Plant in Chesire.

 

Research Interests

Alex returned to Oxford in October 2021 as a DPhil student funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering and EPSRC. Working alongside Dr Brian Sheil, his research focuses on working towards reducing carbon emissions related to underground construction through improved design, construction methods, and materials.
