Dr Yangchen Pan has been a departmental lecturer in machine learning at the Department of Engineering Science since December 2022. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Alberta in 2021. Before he started at Oxford University, he worked as a senior researcher at Huawei Noah’s Ark Lab in Toronto, Canada. In the long-term, his research aims at developing intelligent agents that can learn/improve continually to solve complicated real-world tasks, which involves research topics such as sample efficiency under high dimensionality, generalization mechanisms under data distribution shift, catastrophic forgetting, and adaptive function space, etc.
I am open to working with self-motivated research students in machine learning, reinforcement learning, and deep learning.
