14 Engineering DPhils receive highly competitive Clarendon Scholarships in latest awards

Clarendon offers over 200 fully-funded scholarships each year to assist graduate scholars and this year celebrates its 25th intake of exceptional scholars

Originally established to support overseas students, the Clarendon Fund first welcomed scholars to Oxford in 2001. The scheme was expanded in 2012 to include students from the UK and EU. Throughout this period, the Fund’s aim has remained unchanged; to assist academically outstanding graduate students through their studies at the University of Oxford.

Clarendon scholarships are competitive, prestigious and highly sought-after. Clarendon covers course fees, and provides a generous grant for living expenses. This funding helps reduce the financial barriers that may stand in the way of the best students, from across the world, coming to study at Oxford.

2025/26 sees a record number of Clarendon awards in the Department, with 14 Engineering DPhils receiving the scholarships.

Clarendon awardee Nicole Bakker, who is supervised by Professor Lucia Corsini in the Circular Economy and Sustainability Lab, says, “The Clarendon Scholarship is deeply meaningful to me, because it validates my journey as a woman in engineering and affirms my sense of belonging at Oxford. In my DPhil research, I’m investigating how digital technologies, such as robotics, additive manufacturing, and artificial intelligence, can enable a circular economy for electronics and reduce e-waste. This scholarship connects me to an inspiring interdisciplinary community and reinforces my responsibility to pursue research that contributes to the public good.”
