The Department's Women in Engineering Network was set up in 2012 to provide a support network for women in the department and facilitate their professional development. Each year hustings are held for positions on the WiE Committee, which plans and organises activities and initiatives during the subsequent year such as career talks, study sessions and wellness walks. They also aim to empower more girls to pursue engineering through outreach initiatives and collaborations.

We are delighted to announce the new WiE Committee for 2025:

  • President - Grace Callaghan
  • Vice-President – Nathalie Nick
  • Treasurer – Svenja Lutzow
  • Secretary & Communications Officer – Sitian Shen
  • Outreach Officer – Natalia Weston
  • Event Manager & Outreach Officer – Nina Marcjasz
  • Communications Officer – Jayne Han
  • Sponsor Liaison & IT Officer – Georgia Channing
  • Sponsor Liaison – Melanie Page

Grace Callaghan is a DPhil student of the Wind and Marine Energy Systems and Structures CDT, and is based in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics research group. She was elected as the new President. She says, "I’m delighted to have been elected as president of Women in Engineering for this coming year; I’m passionate about promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity and excited to take an active role in furthering this mission. I’m in my second year of my DPhil here at Oxford working on the interaction between wind farms and atmospheric stability."

She adds, "I am immensely grateful for the wonderful foundation the previous committees have built, and I am keen to expand our network while maintaining a welcoming, supportive and accessible community. We are here to provide you, our members, an inclusive space to flourish while supporting both your career aspirations and welfare."

Nathalie Nick is pursuing a DPhil in Engineering Science in the Oxford Thermofluids Institute in the Oxford Turbine Research Facility group, working in the fields of Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering. She is the WiE Committee's new Vice President.

She says, "I am honoured to take on the role of Vice President of Women in Engineering at Oxford, building upon my experience last year as Communications Officer where I have gained deep insights into our community's needs and aspirations. I am passionate about creating meaningful connections and opportunities within our network, and I look forward to working in our motivated committee to strengthen our community. Having experienced different engineering environments internationally, I am particularly excited to help expand our mentorship initiatives and ensure WiE continues to be a welcoming and supportive space at Oxford."

Women in Engineering Senior Faculty Advisor Professor Susanna Assunta-Sansone says, "With appreciation for the past and excitement for the future, I want to thank our outgoing members for their service and extend a warm welcome to our new WiE Committee. Do not forget we welcome people of all genders to join our inclusive events!".
